I've been reading how tuff it is to replace the air filters on the Thinderbirds. Is it possible to toss the stock airbox assembly and fit individual air filters to the carbs? I've not even seen a Thunderbird up close yet so bear with me on this. I see a lot of customs and race bikes with this set-up.

If the Thunderbird you have is similar to the ‘99 Legend TT my son has, it is difficult. It would require removing the carbs first, which is not too easy if you’re not too inclined mechanically. You might end up having to rejet the carbs as a result, however.

I would think changing jets would be part of the procedure if removing the existing air intake filter system. Sounds like an interesting project. I know it’s not like my twinpot, but the principles should be similar. I found a site that had documentation and recommended jet sizes for different mods. I’m thinking you might want to google the specific Triumph and see if similar information is available.
