I picked up my new Competition green Thruxton last week. As luck would have it, it's been raining ever since. But there was one day that started with sun and very cool 5°C temps. I dressed warmly and off I went. I've been riding fully faired BMW RT's for the past fifteen years so this took a little getting used to. I never test rode the Thruxton before buying it. The looks is what sold me on it.
I find the riding position comfortable and the suspension quite good. Not as comfortable as a touring bike but it was what I had expected. The wind blast keeps me upright and keeps the weight off my wrists. I can't exceed 4000 rpm for thr first 450 kms, but I can tell I'm really going to like the engine. Smooth, vibration free and quite powerful. The clutch lever and throttle feel light. The gearbox shifts nicely. I love the sound it makes. The green paint also looks beautiful in the sun.
One thing that happened at the end of my ride, the shifting linkage became unhooked after the bolt holding the front swivel joint on the shifting linkage backed out. I was unable to change gears. I was only one street from home. I coasted to a stop and had a look. Luckily I hadn't lost any parts. I threaded the bolt back on finger tight and made it back home. I put some loctite on the bolt and tightened it back up. Thruxton owners might want to keep an eye on these bolts.
I can't wait for nicer weather so I can put some serious mileage on this bike. Really liking it so far.
