I am most likely going to be trading in my 2012 Tiger 800 XC for a 2010 Bonnie. It's a long story. The short version is that the Bonnie I am getting was custom painted by the dealership and used a promotional event display. Here is a pic:

It is a beautiful paint job that is 100% spot on perfect. However, it is also just not for me. I love the retro look of the bonnie, and this tank is just to flashy and modern for my tastes. Rather than destroying such a beautiful custom paint job by sanding it down and repainting it, I thought it would be better to just swap out the tank and fenders.

I am very new to Triumphs in general, but I have never even actually touched a bonnie in real life. Anyone know what models and years are compatible with an 2010? I'm not even sure what I am looking for. If I can get a good idea of how feasible it would be to swap out the tank and fenders, then I will be much more likely to sign the papers and do the deal this weekend.

Have you yet ridden the Bonneville to be positive your back will be OK on one?

I wouldn't do that deal until you are positive.

I am going to take it for a test drive Saturday. The dealer is giving me a bunch of seat options to choose from to make sure everything is perfect. I may end up doing a scrambler suspension upgrade at some point to make things a little cushier. I want to try the lower suspension first though. I suspect I am going to feel like my butt is dragging on the ground after being up on the tiger.

Well, someone way more familiar with new Bonnies needs to weigh in here.

That said I believe that tank and fenders would fit several model years.

Personally, I like the union jack tank although it's rather loud. But I wouldn't foresee anyone taking it as unpatriotic. I'm a bit of a purist too so I prefer spoke wheels instead of the mags.

I, too, am a bit of purist. That is why I prefer the Bonneville T100. The T100 is more retro '60's while the Bonneville is more retro '70's. The tank and fenders will swap with any EFI Bonneville/T100 to the best of my understanding.

I suggest that you try the Bonneville and see how you like it, how it is in comfort. Then I would look at suspension upgrades for it. I am not familiar with the stock suspension on the EFI Bonnies; but I am sure that it is just OK as with the carbed Bonnies. Scrambler suspension may be a bit harsh for you.

I prefer spoke wheels too. So you don't think the 60's style tanks will fit this bonnie? I would be happy with something like this:

I am a fan of the knee pads

Yes you could use that type of tank as long as it's from an EFI Bonneville, Scrambler, or Thruxton. The EFI is what is the key.

Underneath that Union Jack paint is the same tank as your picture has minus the knee pads. You could paint the tank and fenders and add the knee pads yourself.

I know, I just hate to destroy such a nice paint job. I'm sure there is someone out there that would love to have it. I figured on just doing an even trade with someone.

Hey Nick have a look at my garage gregsbonnie as I have modified the T100 and suspension which may interest you.QUOTE=NickWilliams;169199]I am going to take it for a test drive Saturday.
