Hi guys,
I have a 2009 fuel injected Thruxton 900 with a completely standard setup, but fitted with Staintune mufflers. I am having a problem getting the bike to run smoothly once warm. Once warm (at about 2500-3000 RPM) I am getting an intermitent miss fire on what appears to be the right hand cylinder. I have changed the plugs and had the throttle bodies balanced. I have also added a bottle of injector cleaner over the last two tank fulls to see if that clears the problem, but no luck unfortuantely. Wondering if anyone can give me some insight on where to go next. Have any of you experienced the same issues and if so, what was the fix? I would really appreciate any help you guys could give.

Based on some thoughts learned on this forum, I suggest trying a reset of the ECU, by starting the bike and letting it idle 20-25 minutes, then shut it down for 15 minutes, then seeing how it runs when you restart.

I could be unknowingly blowing hot air, but it'll only cost you a little fuel and patience to try this.

Hi Greyfell,

Thanks for your reply, I'll give it a go. It's worth a try, nothing to lose. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers Steve

Hi Greyfell,
Thanks for the advice. Did try but it didn't work. Will need to look elsewhere probably. Cheers Steve

This sounds electrical like a bad coil or pick up on the crank. When it warms up a gap opens up and creates a short or misfire. Think @sikatri went thru this with his and sorted it out. Hopefully he'll be by to chime in.

Yes. I replaced the coils and the pickup coil. All issues went away. The coil replacement helped it run smoother until it warmed up and the pickup coil would expand and eventually it would abruptly kill the engine after 20 minutes riding. You could keep it going by keeping the revs up. It got me home and then I ordered the pickup coil.
