My 1978 T140E is completely original and intact except for one thing...the air box. I've looked all over the internet and cannot find a T140E air box or even a picture of it. Is it different than the T140V? What is a one off part or is it shared with other years? For example, will the 1979 T140 air box work? I'm going to go with a K&N Commando filter for now but would like to go back to stock as soon as I can locate the air box. Having a picture would help me as I scan ebay for one.

I owned a T140V (although it had Mikuni carbs and individual air filters) and I highly doubt a T140E had anything different from the "V".

In looking at a Haynes manual, they do not differentiate between the two.

I'm not sure they are exactly correct, as the late style has an outer plastic cover, and I'm not sure those are compatible with the embossed (cast) finning on the front sections...

Come to think of it, the late style setup carb boots are much closer together, not splayed. Let me check the one other set I have, I think they're the same.

grandpaul...I believe you are correct. The early 78 T140V has the splayed carb boots while mine...the 78 T140E has the closer together parallel boots. I have found the splayed boot version of the air box on ebay and some other sites but haven't tracked down a parallel version. I did find a K&N Commando filter that is supposed to fit. The versions of this K&N filter I have seen are too deep and would need modified but by chance I found a version of the same filter that is much shallower...2" deep.. on ebay. Steadfast sells it. I'm eager to see if/how it will fit. Even if I have to go to the retro side panels vs my stock panels I'll be happy to have something in place.
