I've been considering putting handlebar end mirrors on my XE for some time and was considering the ones sold by Tec Triumph in the UK

By pure chance a came across a 'as new' set on eBay UK and took the plunge. If I don't get on with them I'll advertise them on here for what I paid for them

Very easy to fit. Tec have a fitment video on their website

First impressions are that they give a good view of the road behind with no loss due to shoulders etc. The blind spot is about the same. In the end I think it will boil down to aesthetics.

NOW A WORD OF WARNING!

When I removed the left hand mirror I discovered that a wire from the switch had been rubbing against the head of the allen bolt that holds the mirror on. It's worn through the isolation and you can see the different coloured wires inside.

I've already been to my local (8 miles away) Triumph dealer and submitted a warranty claim. The dealer thinks they will replace the entire left hand side switch housing. I should know by the end of the week and I'll keep you posted.

Whilst at the dealers I looked at 1 second hand and 2 new Scramblers and their wiring were well away from the mirror bolt head so no problem. Even so, it's worth checking yours

Mike as an out of warranty repair could be very expensive.

In the mean time I've temporarily repaired the wire with insulation tape, but that's not the point

If I hadn't changed my mirrors I'd probably not noticed it until something controlled by the left hand switch went wrong

Turns out the damaged wire was not from the left hand switch but the heated grips. Part number 31 in the diagram above a.PNG

My dealer has informed me that Triumph will replace it under warranty

Can't say fairer than that

Many thanks to Triumph and my dealer, Youles of Blackburn, UK

Good info!

Funnily enough, as I was riding my XE earlier today I noticed the wires to the r/h switches was tight and moved them but started to think I should get some spiral wrap and wrap anything that's likely to rub.

Honestly I didn't think this would be something I'd need to do on this bike, which is not a cheap ride! But as a preventative, worth the effort. Last time I had to buy spiral wrap was for a KLR - rubbing wires being a common issue. Many years ago, my XT600E stranded me for a while when the main power cable wore against the frame shorting it out.

Hi Mike,
quick question, did you put blanks in the holes left by the original mirrors and if so where did you find them?

thanks,
Tom
Hi Tom

I blanked the original mirror holes off with some stainless steel allen headed bolts with the same thread as the mirrors.

To finish the job off I covered the bolt heads with plastic bolt cover caps I bought off eBay

Pictures below

I hope this helps
