Hey guys I'm new to the group and i am a fellow Triumph appreciator, i have a 76 tiger 650 and a 2001 legend 900 also, i have been trying to get the legend back to 100% for a few weeks, it sat for about 8 years or so before i got it in the shop to get it fired back up for a friend, cleaned carbs etc and it was running good except a sputter on the low end when you would take off, i had to remake the air filter with new filter median so i assumed it was just a little lean and planned to up jet size later, well almost 2 years later it was still in my shop looking like a sad child that just wanted to go outside and enjoy the nice weather, so after some negotiation i bought it for myself and when i took the bike cover off of it i noticed that a rat had had it way with the wiring , cleaned it up and it wasn't as bad as i thought, it was just oil sensor wire and the crank position sensor wire, repaired wires, soulder and shrink wrap, cleaned carbs set floats etc and i installed new main jets, went from 98 to 100 buttoned it all back up and fired up and was sounding good, trip down the road was good, a couple of days later went to start and no tach reading and no start, messed with the kill switch and it started , figured it was that so pulled cleaned polished all contacts, running good, added some fuel treatment to older gas and that was a mistake, ended up with sticky slides, dumped all the fuel, pulled carbs again and cleaned everything and cleaned slides good, put it back together and it was running decent, sputter when you would take off just a little , pulled carbs back off and drilled out plugs for the air/fuel to adjust screws, got them decent and synced carbs and would start good and just a little choke when cold it would start, warmed up and idles good and then it would randomly sputter then idle good then sputter then good etc read up and everyone recommended replacing the crank position sensor, ( the one the rat ate) so pulled it and epoxy was cracked a little so i ordered a new one, got it in last week and installed it resynced the carbs again, adjusted Air/fuel screws again and got the idle sounds smooth at about 1400 rpm after about a 4 min warm up time, pulls hard and smooth on the mid to top end but it still has the sputter thing when you take off about 50% of the time, which is better than all the time like it was, but its driving me crazy, i have been wrenching on motorcycles etc since i was a child and have a pretty good mechanical aptitude but this this is testing my brain for sure, so I'm here to see if anyone here can possibly save me some headache and from ordering some not needed parts, if you get on it hard on the low end it does it worse and adding choke makes no change to it. i look forward to hearing suggestions from you guys soon and thanks.
