Barn Find

Member
Hi, I have a Triumph Bonneville 650cc barn find with no number plates and DVLA have told me to get dating evidence from a vehicle owners club to submit with an application to get the bike registered.

Can anyone help please ? TIA

Is there a vin number or engine number ect, the VIN number will tell you when it was manufactured. The manufactured date should be on the same plate actually.

Hi, thanks for reply. Yes the vin number is on the frame and the engine. It is T120 v GE25693. I sent pictures of this to DVLA and asked if they had a record of the bike from the vin number, but they don’t. They say I have to apply for “first vehicle tax and registration of a used vehicle” and they need “dating evidence from a vehicle owners club”. Do you know of anyone suitable to provide this please?

Are you sure the build date isn’t on the same plate as the VIN ? I don’t belong to a club and am not very knowledgeable on the older models. But looking at my plate it has the build date on it 04/15

Thank you for all your help and advice. I have now joined the Triumph Motorcycle Club who I understand will provide me with the information I need for DVLA

Being in Australia this process seems very strange. Won’t the DVLA accept the information on the plate? Instead they want a civilian organisation to confirm it. Sounds like the government making simple things hard. Who’d eh thunk it…

You were correct, the bike was built & despatched to Triumph Corporation,Baltimore,USA
in June 1971.

Have today joined Triumph motorcycle owners club, asked the question and had a very speedy response with all the information I need. Very impressed and many thanks to all concerned
